Rode NT-1000

I was rather surprised to realize that I’d never written up anything about my main microphone, the Rode NT-1000. It doesn’t have an elaborate back-story like a lot of my other gear. When I was putting together my recording rig, I decided that while I needed a good microphone, I wasn’t going to spend a fortune. I needed something that was durable (at the time I thought I’d be using it as part of a mobile recording rig) but sounded good. After much research, I settled on the Rode NT-1000. I’m glad I did.

This is a good all around microphone that I think is especially suited for vocals. I’ve gotten results with this mic that have astounded me. Just listen to the vocal on “If You Listen” and you’ll know what I mean. I’m not sure I could have achieved such a great vocal track with any other mic in this price range.

I won’t get into semantics about how there are “better” or “warmer” microphones out there. Of course there are. But for my price range, this mic is a god-send. It allows me to get reasonably professional results at a fraction of the price of the higher end studio mics. This is the one for me.
