Working On It

Taking a short break. I’ve been pulling boxes of books out of the tool shed and putting them on the truck. The technique here is to work until I’m about to fall over and die, then come in and sit in front of a fan until I feel somewhat normal again. Then it’s back to it. It’s actually a very positive thing that I’m pulling stuff out of the tool shed. Except for the books, I can’t see that there’s much out there worth keeping. That means I’m getting pretty close to being done. Well, closer, anyway.
Kids. Listen to me. Enjoy your video game consoles. Enjoy your computers. Enjoy your television shows. Do not, under any circumstances, get into the habit of reading books. I am living proof, and can tell you with some certainty, that books will kill you! If you get into the habit of reading, you will get into the habit of collecting books. Do you have any idea how much a box full of hardcover books weighs? Trust me. You will thank me later. Do not read books!
I only have four more stacks of books to go. I’ve put four on the truck already. Lemme see. Four or five boxes in each stack. So I have about twenty boxes of books. Sheesh. Reading will kill you!
Well, I feel a little less like I’m going to die. It’s hot outside, but the wind is blowing a bit, so I’ve been able to make three or four runs before I start feeling like I’m going to fall over. Best to get back at it.
I feel kind of abandoned today. Mama stopped by for about twenty minutes and then left. Said she’d be back when the soaps went off, but they went off at 16:00. I haven’t seen much of her at all lately. I know there isn’t a lot she can do here, but I figured of all people, Mama would come over to lend moral support. I’ve joked about her coming over and washing dishes, but she’s not even doing that now. She’s comes over every day, eats some of what little food I have, and leaves. Hehehe. Like this morning she came over and fried up a pack of bologna I had. She and I ate a couple of sandwiches each, and then she left. What’s up with Mama and my food?
This sounds like I’m being a complete ass, but I’m beginning to wonder if I should check into whether or not Mama has any food at her apartment. It would be just like her to have bought some things for me here (she brought in a couple of loaves of bread and some ham yesterday) and not buy anything for herself. Mama is, of course, welcomed to anything in the cabinet. But it’s beginning to seem odd to me that it appears that she comes over, eats and leaves.
If truth be told, I suspect Mama’s getting really emotional about the house emptying out. She came in this morning and stood in the hallway for a long moment, staring into my bedroom (which is completely empty … probably the first time she’s seen it like that).
I’m actually anxious for her to come back over here because she’s been harassing the shit out of me about repairing her rocking chair. This has driven me crazy because, well, I have a whole lot of other things on my plate at the moment. But this afternoon I pulled out the drill and some nylon cord, and I fixed it.
Well, I’m going to get back at it. When I let myself cool off too much, the bones begin to ache. It’s probably a good thing I’m not going back to work until Monday. If I was to try to jump back into a truck tomorrow, I’d drive about thirty miles and have to take a nap. Then I’d probably sleep for twelve hours. Hell, I’d probably sleep for a couple of days.
