“It probably says a lot that Victoria and I sometimes make fun of this song by singing its chorus as ‘She's a crazy squirrel’ (partly in honor of our once-upon-a-time squirrel friend, Sunny). ‘Crazy Girl’ is a great guitar riff in a song that was badly executed. Like some of the other songs, it was recorded before it was fully baked. The lyrics are kind of cringe-ey, but taught me not to push lyrics just for the sake of finishing a song. All that said, I was going for a thing where someone looks right past all the faults of their significant other. It's not a direct parallel, but at least some of the sentiments in the lyrics came from my first wife's carefully planned, and skilltfully executed, exit.” ~ Wicasta Lovelace

When The Windws Blow was recorded in 2010 and 2011 in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and was released on May 1, 2011.
It was the culmination of a long journey for me and Victoria, in which we tried (rather unsuccessfully) to establish ourselves as an acoustic act in the Tampa Bay music scene. During the recording of the album I basically learned that I'm not really cut out for the acoustic thing, and you can feel it on the album. There's a lot of push and pull between songs that sat rather well as acoustic pieces, and other songs which seemed to want to be larger than that format allowed.
Victoria and I are both conflicted about this album. While we're fiercely proud of it, both of us concede the recording of the album was rushed and there are lots of mistakes which make us both twitch whenever we try to listen to it.
All that said, I think the album contained some great songs and I'm very proud of it. A lot was learned recording these songs, and the experience was vital to who I am now. But it would be fair to say that both Victoria and I regard the album as something of a failed experiment.
