Catching Gears

Un-Released

“Ten Feet Tall” will be included on the album In The Fifth Circle, which will be released in late 2024 or in January of 2025. It is tentatively scheduled to be released as a single in June 2024.

Lyrics

When I'm standin' near my baby,
I feel 'bout, 'bout ten feet tall,
'Cause she loves me, adores me.
I'm her man, and that's all.
When she finds me, I'm somebody,
She makes me more than I am.
They can tell her I'm nothin’ but trouble,
And she just won't give a damn.

(CHORUS)
I'm livin' when I stand beside her.
I'm dyin' when she walks away.
I know I'm nothin' without her.
She knows I like it that way.

When I cry out in the darkness,
She pulls me into the light.
When I've fallen into madness,
She sets my ship aright.
If I'm crazy on that mountain,
And fall down for forty days,
She'll crawl back up that mountainside
To help me find my way.

(CHORUS)
I'm livin' when I stand beside her.
I'm dyin' when she walks away.
I know I'm nothin' without her.
She knows I like it that way.

(LEAD BREAK)

When I'm standin' near my baby,
I damned near reach ten feet tall,
'Cause she loves me and adores me.
I'm her man, and that's all.
Yes, she's crazy 'bout her baby.
I could not chase her away.
She found a fool on the mountainside,
And took him home to stay.

(CHORUS 2x)
I'm livin' when I stand beside her.
I'm dyin' when she walks away.
I know I'm nothin' without her.
She knows I like it that way.

There Are Stories?

The short story which matches to “Ten Feet Tall” is titled “No One Of Note”. This story chronicles the last day of a man who's a legend in his own mind. That's kind of hard to explain, but his fans know what I mean.

AN EXCERPT

“The guitar's a bit much,” Johnny said as he entered the courtyard.

Satan glanced up, smiled. He continued to softly play licks on Johnny’s infamous red guitar. “Good to see you, John,” he said. “Been a long time.”

Johnny nodded. He wanted to say something witty. Or rude. Even hurtful. He wanted to be angry, to lash out, and to rage against the dying of the proverbial light. But he had nothing left to rage with. Johnny Rex Johnson was tired. He just wanted to lay his head down and be done with it all. It was time to put away the toys.

“How you get my guitar?” Johnny asked. It was the only question he had.

Satan grinned. “I have my ways. Besides, it’s our guitar. Is it not? It comes when I call. Same as it did for you.”.

The musician huffed. “Only came for me once.”

Johnny sat down beside the Lord of Darkness. The Prince of Lies. Bombad Biggity. He didn’t know all the verbiage. Satan kept playing. Just random bits. A bit of the bridge from Purple's “Perfect Strangers”. Parts of “Rock Soldier”. A quick refrain from “Time Bomb”. There was no commonality. Each seemed as random as the last. Bits and pieces, like fragments of memory floating to the surface, one after the other.

“Here’s one,” Satan told him, and played an odd, meandering riff.

It sounded like someone just noodling around. But there was a defined structure. It was so familiar. Complex but random; something which was very carefully constructed to sound haphazard.

“Oh,” Johnny said as he realized what it was. “Fripp, from ‘Ladies On The Road’!” Johnny grinned. “That one's diabolical.”

Satan smirked. “Well, you know me...”
